The Cali Vibes Jacket Bag project exemplifies our passion for problem solving, turning obsolete jackets into stylish, functional tote bags. This initiative, in collaboration with Goldenvoice, showcases why upcycling is so complicated, and also the fun and passion that comes with the effort of doing this work.

Creativity, Patience and Perseverance

The journey of transforming these unsold jackets into rad new tote bags was an exercise in creativity, patience, and meticulous craftsmanship. Every part of the jacket was utilized, ensuring a true upcycling process that left very little material wasted. Here’s how we did it:

• Waist Cinch Transformation: The waist cinch from the original jackets found a new purpose as the drawstring closure for the tote bags
• Interior Innovations: We repurposed the jacket pockets on the inside of the bags for additional functionality, while the collar became the edge finishes for the interior pockets
• Sleeves to Water Bottle Pockets: The sleeves were ingeniously transformed into water bottle pockets
• Sizing Accommodations: Because the original jackets' size ranged from L - XXXL, we crafted three different tote sizes. This strategy maximized material use, minimized waste, and catered to diverse customer needs.
• Retired Climbing Ropes for Handles: The handles were made from upcycled climbing ropes, retired from their first life at local gyms. 

This project was more than just making bags; it was about solving problems and making the most out of materials that were otherwise destined for the landfill. 

A Collaboration with Goldenvoice: A Shared Vision for Sustainability

Goldenvoice's support for upcycling and responsible material use has been a cornerstone of this project. Their commitment to sustainability has enabled us to explore innovative ways to repurpose materials from music festivals, transforming them into durable, long-lasting products. This includes obsolete merchandise like t-shirts and jackets, as well as mesh banners. 

Upcycling takes real dedication. This work is hands-on and demands skilled crafts people who can take something old and see its potential. It's about paying attention to the little details and not giving up. Each bag carries with it a story of transformation, creativity, and the power of sustainable design.
